Our History

In 1954, the Sisters of Mercy began an independent private school, unaffiliated and separate from the archdiocese and the local parish, grade by grade in the Emanuel House, until the completion of the school on Neck Road in 1962 and was called Our Lady of Mercy Country Day School. This was a Novitiate for the Sisters of Mercy as they were a teaching order where the novices taught the students in the Catholic tradition to be “Christ in the World”. Throughout the years these students consistently excelled, academically placing at many fine secondary schools, such as  Choate Rosemary Hall, Hamden Hall, Hopkins Day School, Portsmouth Abbey, Pomfret, Sacred Heart Academy, Mercy High School, Laurelton Hall, Notre Dame High School , Xavier High School, Miss Porter's School, as well as enrolling in the public high schools in their respective towns.

The Archdiocese of Hartford took over the school from the Sisters of Mercy in 2006, when the school became a parochial/parish school controlled by their education department. ln January 2018, the Archdiocese decided to close the school as it no longer wanted to support a Catholic school in Madison.

After many years of a rich history in Madison and along the shoreline, OLM Prep has returned to its roots.

On September 4, 2018, Our Lady of Mercy School reopened its school in the same EXACT tradition it began in 1954 as Our Lady of Mercy Preparatory Academy (OLM Prep), its successor school, now located at 503 Old Toll Road, Madison, CT. OLM Prep is an independent private school which teaches to the Catholic tradition and is open to all faiths, just as Our Lady of Mercy School was until 2006.

OLM Prep welcomes all those who wish to learn more about the school and is looking forward to continuing the academic richness of an independent Catholic school that it has been for many decades.

Our School

Dedicated Teachers

All of our teachers are highly qualified, experienced in education, and hold a CT teaching certification.  Their passion for teaching is evident in their innovative lesson plans that encourage students to improve their creativity, work collaboratively, problem-solve, and become responsible citizens.  They are excited to help students find and complete Christ's mission in their lives.

First-Rate Curriculum

The mission of our curriculum is:“To nurture children into kind, thoughtful, and creative innovators, who have a thirst for knowledge and can synthesize their learning while spreading their Catholic faith.”  We have dedicated countless hours pouring over the best standards, research-based curricula, and educational practices.  We have tapped numerous professions in EVERY field to bring our students the most cutting-edge education.

Faith in Action

OLM Prep is happy to confirm that it will provide students with CCD, sacramental preparation, weekly prayer services, and monthly masses!  Sacramental services will happen by class with the OLM Prep school community.

We use Dynamic Catholic Materials: Blessed and Decision Point for sacramental preparation. They are an amazing Catholic organization that is firmly grounded in faith and focusing on revitalizing Catholicism in America.

Daycare vs. Preschool

Our Lady of Mercy Preparatory Academy provides full and half day Preschool for children ages 3 and up that is almost HALF THE PRICE of regular daycare.

Financial Aid

We have generous financial aid packets for families in need because ALL families should have the opportunity to provide the best education for their children.

In Isaiah 54:13 it states: "All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children."

At OLM Prep, our mission to provide the best education for children is so vital for us because we believe that our children are the world's most treasured resource. And in a very turbulent world, children need a nurturing environment where they can become the best version of themselves in mind, body, and spirit.

We also provide before care beginning at 7:00am and aftercare ending at 6:00pm to alleviate stress for working parents.
